About Us

DeCycleIt! is a St. Louis, MO nonprofit organization started in mid-2011 to meet the needs of the St. Louis region for a central plant operation for secure destruction and disposal of sensitive documents.

DeCycleIt! has a social entrepreneurship mission that focuses on hiring developmentally disabled adults living in St. Louis City and St. Louis County to perform secure document shredding tasks, thus providing safe and dignified employment opportunities not available to them elsewhere.

DeCycleIt! also has an environmental mission that focuses on recycling business waste to re-purpose discarded materials and to promote “green” processes and procedures in today’s businesses.

As a 501 ( C ) 3 charitable organization, DeCycleIt!’s triple-focused mission of blending social mission and green initiatives via a real-world business channel is unique in today’s business environment. In 2011, DeCycleIt!’s business plan was recognized by the Skandalaris Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at Washington University when we were awarded a grant of $10,000 as a winner in the YouthBridge SEIC Business Plan Competition. This funding moved DeCycleIt!’s social/business/environmental mission forward to acquire important, state-of-the-art security equipment required for certification by the National Association for Information Destruction (NAID).
